Day Six – America's
Loneliest Highway & Great Basin National Park
From Yosemite National
Park to Yuba State Park, Utah
After
an eventful evening with an uninvited guest at our cottage – an elk on the
front porch, Joey and I loaded the trailer and motorcycle for our departure
of Yosemite. Bittersweet!
Truly enjoyed the
historic hotel, wonderful meals – 5 star restaurant with great food, service
and atmosphere! Wawona Hotel is a fantastic place to stay if you ever visit
Yosemite!
Leaving the park
takes a bit of time… a couple of hours to get from the south side, pass the
beautiful El Capitan, through tunnels and onto the highway with no guard
rails! AUGH! Gorgeous views! Beautiful sights! SCARY time for Joey’s wife!
The
opportunity to commune with our Lord during this time was very prevalent! As
we traveled down the Sierra Nevada mountains, I held on tight to Joey (13,
143 ft. peaks!) with no guard rails, I was very happy to get to the bottom
of the mountain… and able to look up! Leaving Yosemite Park we saw a
beautiful “Mirror Lake” which is captured in several photos.
The day continues with beautiful scenery… Nevada is gorgeous!
We ventured down a
highway that was nestled between apart of the mountain ranges… very desolate
yet very gorgeous. Joey drooled as we drove past a house with neighbors that
were in the next town. How he’d love to live in an area with National Park
as the nearest attraction.
The
gorgeous, open area does come with a price to pay at times… the winds were
very strong and at times quite tiring. Upon “finishing the ride of America’s
Loneliest Highway – Highway
50”, we hit a windstorm that was so strong it blew off Joey’s goggles.
Kinda scary for us… During
these “interesting times on a motorcycle ride”, I find comfort in singing
hymns and praying… Of course I think it’s only heard by me, but all of a
sudden, Joey asked, “Are you singing?” “Yes… Amazing Grace.”
We arrived in Ely to
find a hotel for the night. Days Inn…. Last room available. Next to a
Mexican Restaurant… chips and salsa for dinner – yum! Shower, bed and
prayers of thanks for a safe ride.
