Day Seven – Capital Reef & Arches National Park

From Yuba State Park, Utah to Leadville, Colorado

Summary:

After a pot of coffee while watching the sun rise and packing up the tent and putting away the bed rolls we take to the road once more.

Heading south on SH-28 then Hwy-89, we pick up Interstate-70 for just a bit before turning off on SH-24 south toward Capital Reef National Park.

With a quick stop and visit in Capital Reef National Park we jump back on the bike and move eastward along SH-24 where it turns northward in Hanksville, Utah.  From there we head north on SH-24 back to Interstate-70 for a 30 mile run before turning south on Hwy-191 toward Arches National Park.

With Arches National Park being one of the last of the National Parks for me (Joey) to visit, I am looking forward to this leg of the trip.  That and the beauty of the red canyons and mountains that stretches across all of Utah and halfway into Colorado.

After a three hour planed visit to Arches national Park we move out to follow the Colorado River north east before it turns away and we move northward back once more to Interstate-70.

Now at highway speeds we move on covering some good ground into Colorado where we turn south on SH-24 into White River National Forest.

Here the roads turn curvy once more.  With slower speeds and a smile on my face, Lisa will once more be held fast to her armrest as we cut away at the mountain roads.

Once in or around the area of Leadville the sun will start to descend along the mountain tops and the valleys will start to bring about it's evening chill as we look to the road sides for a sight that says, "Camping this way."
