Four – Pacific Highway
From San Simeon State Park, California to Yosemite National Park
Summary:
After a peaceful nights rest and a pot of coffee over the camp stove our journey continues up Highway One north along the Pacific coastline.
Once we reach
Castroville, California; 75 miles north of Limekiln State Park, we turn
inland and wave good-bye once more to the
Pacific
Ocean. That is after we make several stops along the coast for
pictures, a picnic lunch and to grab a jar of beach sand to add to our
collection.
At Castroville we will be turning north eastward on SH-156 where we will be picking up SH-152 north of Hollister. From there we pick up SH-99 south to Madera were we pick up SH-145 to SH-41 north into Yosemite National Park.
Along this route we will be crossing a few different mountain ranges and looking once again for fruit stands along the road and every opportunity to smell the flowers.
Day four's trip will
be a day of light traveling with an estimated 260 miles. With doing
so, we are expected to pull into Yosemite mid day, leaving us some time to
visit the travel
center, taking a quick ride around Yosemite Valley before checking into
Wawona Hotel and having a romantic dinner for two.
