Day 03

After breakfast at the Grand Canyon and watching the sun rise, it was back on the bike.

Right after leaving the park, we came across an elk grazing beside the road.  And of course we had to stop for a few pictures.  By doing so, this left Lisa a chance to push her luck and see how close she could walk up to this big animal with out scaring her husband enough to get onto her.

It is also at this time that we start to have problems with the camera not focusing correctly... so from this point on, the pictures of this great trip get fuzzy.

Once back on the bike and a few hundred miles down the road, with the temperatures climbing into the triple digests, we make it to Hover Dam.  Just in time to cross over and take some time inside to cool off.  That and giving me a chance to leave my phone in the auditorium.

After an hour or so visiting Hover Dam, watching the history and the construction of Hover Dam along with riding down the elevator to see the generators...  Not to mention the much needed time with the air conditioners, it was time to get back on the road and head to Death Valley.

As it turns out, it is this part of the trip that would be one of those everlasting memories that you would have and would talk about for years to come.

Riding down some long and lonely road with the temperatures reaching close to 130 degrees.

With both of us tucked in tightly behind the wind shield and commenting to each other how it would hurt if and when you would place your hand out from behind the windshield of the bike into the main air stream of the road.  "IT'S HOT."

Our plan for the night and as it turned out we would be spending the night in Stove Pipe Wells, but before getting there, we would have to make a quick stop at Furnace Creek.  Not as much for water or to visit but to enjoy a few minuets lying in the grass that set out front.  Grass that was currently being watered by the sprinklers.

For those on lookers, we did not care what they thought, we were hot and lying in the grass with water misting over us, we enjoyed it very much.

From there, it was on to Stove Pipe.

Once there, we checked into the Hotel, went to our rooms to unpack and enjoy the a/c once again.  The problem was, inside the room, the temperature was in the triple digests and the a/c was small.  Even with it running on high all night, the room barely got down to the upper eighties by morning.

The cold shower we were so much looking forward to, well that did not happen either.  With the out side heat, the water lines under ground were never cold.  Even with the shower water running only cold water, it was still hotter than you would care for.

Still, with all things considering, the food at the restaurant was wonderful.  Along with that of the the service.

Now my wife and I are not much, nor will we ever be ones for the finer dinning pleasures in life, but we do enjoy civilization from time to time.

With what we have experienced at any and all of the National Parks, we are very pleased with the quality of personnel, the cleanliness and the food.  Besides, were else can you have a nice steak dinner followed by a good nights sleep in a pop-up tent.
