Labor Day 2009

September 5-7, 2009

Day One

Day one took us from Katy, Texas to Artesia, New Mexico.

Leaving the house around five in the morning we traveled Interstate-10 to Fort Stockton then north on Highway 285 into New Mexico.  Stopping only for breakfast and gas, we made good time leaving us room for a detour off of our planed rough to visit Carlsbad Caverns.

At Carlsbad Caverns we enjoyed a nice hour and a half walk through the caverns and enjoyed the sights and sock up the cool air before getting back on the bike and move on.  This again giving us the opportunity to grab another coffee cup to add to our growing collection of coffee cups and for me to grab a sticker for our trailer that is starting to look like a foot locker that has seen the world over.

We finished out the day in Artesia as planed.  A cute little town that was not as busy as we would of thought with this being Labor Day weekend.  In fact, we found most of the restraints closed and the hotel we stayed at to be fairly empty.

The restraint we did find open and greatly enjoyed, this being 'Hennery's Barbeque'.  A new restraint that has great food at a good price with huge helpings and friendly service.  A restraint that we would recommend for anyone traveling that way.
